Easter Retreat

For the past five years Broadgate in the West part of the Lakes has been our Easter retreat.

This beautiful Georgian country house and Estate allows us to disconnect, relax and reflect. Simplicity and charm is the norm for décor and lifestyle here.

The day starts with a very early walk with Theodora and Tristan (our adorable whippets) to Swinside Stone Circle, one of the most important in Cumbria and older than famous Stonehenge. Part of the Broadgate Estate, the circle is situated in a magnificent location, amongst the beautifully serene fells.

After this purifying little walk an early breakfast by the fire seems fitting.

The days in Cumbria are slow paced, relaxed and often filled with a trip to nearby Muncaster Castle or Holker Hall, a long walk up the mighty Black Combe (our preference being the long 4 hour walk starting in Whicham and finishing at Broadgate House) or perhaps a short trip to the peaceful Wastwater.

We have been blessed with stunningly good weather, which has allowed us to enjoy the first picnics of the year in the beautifully kept gardens at Broadgate.

After a leisurely rest and a suitable change of clothes, a glass of champagne by the fire awaits before dinner, either at Broadgate with Lady Diana, our magnificent host or at the nearby Blacksmith Arms, a delightful Cumbrian pub dating back to the 16th century and offering deliciously home cooked food and fabulous Cumbrian Ale.

A dram of whiskey by the fire and a tall and comfortable country bed with crisp white linen (electric blanket included!) brings to an end our Cumbrian days.

No wonder we're looking forward to going back!
